A program holds the rules for who gets rewarded, how much, and when.
Most companies run a single program. You might add a second one for a partner channel or a time-limited campaign.

Templates set sensible defaults that you can change later.
The friend gets a discount at signup. The referrer gets a fixed reward when the friend makes their first payment. Works well for consumer and prosumer SaaS.
Changing a live program
Edits apply to new referrals only. Referrals already in progress keep the rules they started with, so nobody's reward changes under them.
To test a change first, duplicate the program in test mode, make the edit there, and run through the quickstart again.
